Update

Planning for the Future

On July 23rd, AQD hosted a meeting to give members a chance to share views about Oconee  County growth with the County's new Director of Planning, DeAnn Hester. To facilitate the discussion, we had posters on display that presented a variety of issues and ideas address those issues .  Click on the "Blog" link at the upper left to review those posters.

What We're About

Our Mission

To support projects, legislation, and development that enhance the overall quality of life for residents while monitoring compliance with the letter and the spirit of local ordinances.  We work diligently in both Oconee and Pickens Counties to protect our watershed, public safety, and the environment.

Our Goals

We promote responsible growth and development through education and informed policy setting support that will:

  • Bring jobs and control tax increases
  • Manage strains on our infrastructure (e.g., roads, emergency response, safe drinking water, etc.)
  • Balance and protect the rights of property owners
  • Protect the environment and shorelines
  • Give business and homeowners a voice in land uses compatible with their neighborhoods

Our Work

  • Advocate for smart, responsible growth
  • Alert and educate regarding land development and land use concerns, issues, and opportunities
  • Interact with Duke Energy on key upstate lake programs such as:
    • Keowee-Toxaway Relicensing Agreement
    • Duke's Habitat Enhancement Program
    • Lake Keowee Source Water Protection
  • Champion Land Development Standards such as density, drainage/retention, tree preservation, respecting adjacent uses, set backs from differing uses, traffic study requirements, etc.
  • Support establishment of Land Use Controls to protect community and owner needs
  • Attend County Council, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, Sewer Commission, and other key meetings
  • Monitor infrastructure needs, plans, and permits

Protecting Lake Keowee By Protecting Our Shores

Whether you own property in a lakefront community or simply enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, or drinking tap water, you have a vested interest in Lake Keowee’s health. And what we all do on the LAND that surrounds the lake can have a major impact on water quality.
